Our approach

Forward. Focused. Student sitting and having conversation

There's no doubt the spring/summer and fall 2020 terms will be different at Dalhousie, with the majority of courses being offered online. But we're taking steps to ensure the best possible experience for students, staff and faculty by supporting academic success, investing in the student experience and taking safety seriously.

Supporting student education and academic success

Online, and eventually in person, students will engage with award-winning professors who take pride in sharing knowledge, research opportunities and the support students need to see where their ideas can take them.

  • With the choice of over 200 programs and more than 4,000 courses, students can create a unique-to-you degree that’s an investment in the future.
  • Students can expect the same high-quality instruction from our outstanding faculty and teaching staff with support from enhanced online learning platforms.
  • New online environments are being developed so students can connect with classmates from where they are.
Support. Students in classroom

Investing in students and the student experience

We're spending more than $1 million on technology development, additional online instruction training and increased supports for students—providing more bursaries and financial aid support than ever before.

  • We continue to invest in all areas of student support services for a robust online experience this fall—mental health counseling, student success, student accessibility and more.
  • As we gather in an online environment, students will find engaging experiences tailored to communities that meet specific needs including the Black Student Advising Centre, Indigenous Student Centre, International Centre, LGBTQ2SIA+ support services and groups and spiritual connection services and groups.
  • We’ve doubled the amount of financial aid with an additional $3 million investment for undergraduate students. This is in addition to the existing $36 million we provide annually in student financial supports.
Safety. Cleaning stairs with mop

Taking community safety seriously

In line with prevailing public health advice and the leadership of our academic and operational teams, we are building a robust campus safety plan for those faculty, staff, researchers and students who are required to be on-campus.

  • We are putting our own university-wide protocols in place to restrict the number of people on campus, ensure appropriate social distancing, provide barrier protection when needed and continually maintain a high standard of cleaning and disinfecting.
