the indigenous student centre (isc) helps create a sense of belonging to support your success while at dalhousie. our indigenous student advisor provides support and advocacy for all of dalhousie’s indigenous students. we welcome you to make use of our personal, educational, and career resources to enhance your university experience:
visit the centre
visit our centre at 1321 edward street to enjoy a hot drink, take advantage of our advising, tutors, and computer lab, and meet other indigenous students. we also host social gatherings, including potlucks, cultural events and information sessions.
the indigenous student centre is proud to offer traditional smudging. the centre has appropriate ventilation and plant medicines available. we welcome students and elders to visit the centre to use our smudging facilities.
meet our staff
michele graveline, indigenous student advisor
michele graveline (she/her) is the indigenous student advisor at dalhousie. i grew up within treaty 5, in a historical metis community in northern manitoba called ralls island. of mixed ancestry, i have roots to the red river and northern saskatchewan. i arrived in mi’kma’ki in 1995 for a year and i am still here. i completed a ba (hons.) at the university of manitoba (’92) and a maed at mount saint vincent university with a thesis titled reinventing our eco-relationship as natural world within the medicine wheel (2008). my interests include earth-based healing, personal writing, ecological relations, cultural safety, and anti-violence against women and mmiwgts. i have been supporting indigenous students in this territory since 2009, first in public schools and starting in 2017, at dalhousie.
